In honor of Earth Day, I decided to do two projects that captured the duality of our planet. One made of flowers and the other comprised of the trash that I personally accumulated over the week. I wanted to capture both the natural beauty and artificial ugliness that plague our society. I spent a total of 15 hours and 2 minutes creating both outfits, giving me a lot of time to reflect on the role corporations, celebrities, capitalism, and consumerism play in the current state of our planet.
What a lot of people don't notice is that our environmental state reflects the mental, spiritual, and social state of our communities; and I wanted to embed the interconnectedness into these pieces. This dress is made out of a trash bag featuring newspaper clip-outs, a personal reflection on the rate of consumerism and the role of overconsumption, and a Takis bag left with a riddling question: "What even is Red 40?"
In a World of Contrasts: the Pristine and the Polluted.
